Introduction

The first paragraph hooks the reader and introduces the topic.

2.

Transition

1-2 sentences to move into the body of the story. Also introduces the person quoted.

3.

Quote

2-3 sentences of a direct quote from someone attending the event or who is the focus of the story. Refer to people by last name.

4.

Fact

1-2 sentences of information, such as the background of the person or event. Include dates, times, locations, etc.

5.

Repeat

Continue the pattern of transition, quote, and fact until the story is done.

6.

Conclusion

Rap up the story with 1-2 sentences about the reception of the event or topic.

The Sunflower Yearbook uses AP Journalistic style for all of our stories. This style uses a very strict format and must be written in past tense.
